Life Beyond Death

He was dead. Son Gohan had passed away.
Videl lay there at his side, tears streaming down her aged face into her greyed strands of hair. Her tear drops fell onto his silent face. He did not stir, his face lay still his eyes closed in a relaxed position as if asleep. He did not breath he did not move, son Gohan had died peacefully in his sleep.
Videl sobbed as his final words repeated themselves over and over in her head.
"I love you Videl..." He had whispered to her. "I will always love you Videl, never f-forget that..." Her hand still lay on his limp open palm, the feeling of his hands grip around hers after speaking his final words to her still tingled. She kept her palm there as if hoping for it to hold her hand again, in the reassuring way that it always did. But it didn't, he didn't move again, and Videl sobbed at his side, until finally crying herself to sleep. She would have to learn to get on without him, she would have to for his sake...

-Two years later-
Videl awoke to find herself standing behind a long line of people. But they didn't seem very much like people, they had humanoid shapes but they seemed to be made up of a strange cloud-like substance as if made of air.
Some were cloudier in appearance than others looking almost looking to be entirely made of cloud, whereas others were more solid looking in appearance but had a faint misty aura trailing behind them.
Looking down at her hands, Videl noticed that she too had a faint misty residue flowing around her skin. She suddenly noticed to her surprise, that her skin had seemingly magically rejuvenated. It was no longer wrinkly and old looking, but instead was a new soft firmer skinned hand, very similar to the hands she had had when she was younger. She traced her hands over her face only to feel the same smooth skin trailing along her face. She found all this to be very strange.
Looking down the line before her she noticed the other differences and similarities in the people ahead of her.
The people with misty auras like hers appeared to be as young with skin as fair as hers was, now, all of them looking to be in their prime ages even. Whereas the cloudier  people's faces showed definite signs of age cloudy wrinkles and liver-spots donned their flesh. Though all of them like her bore the same expressions of confusion and wonder over their present location.
They stood in a queue, along a narrow red-lined canary-yellow bridge which stood above a vast field of yellow clouds. Videl couldn't see where the bridge began behind her, it seemed to stretch out as if for infinite miles, but she could see that the bridge lead to a large fortress with a huge castle in the centre, it was there where the bridge was leading them. Unsure of what to do or where to go, Videl resigned and followed the queue of people as they proceeded to the castle.

Videl arrived at the huge doors of the castle after the cloudy man in-front of her was politely escorted inside the building by a blue horned man in a smart office-style suit. She waited in silence before the massive fortress. She couldn't help feel a little nervous. She was confused as to where she was or what was going on. But she wouldn't run, Videl Son was definitely no coward. She nodded to herself in determination as she waited before the castle doors.
Soon after the blue man re-opened the door.
"Yes next please, Ms. Videl Son." the man beckoned her inside with a kindly smile.
Videl flinched in surprise at being addressed by her full name but still followed him inside weakly returning his smile.
The castle room she then entered was breath-taking. Inside was an enormous box shaped room, yellow tiles coated the flooring, two doors stood either side of her both on opposite walls to each other. Both of them lead to some unknown location.
But the thing that really caught her eye, was the largest desk that Videl had ever seen, perched in the middle of the room, at it sat a gigantic bearded red ogre in a purple suit busily flipping through pages of a book.
The blue man gave the ogre and her, a respectful bow and retreated to the doors, waiting to admit the next person when ready.
The ogre gave a sudden grunt noticing her arrival. His dinner-plate sized eyes studied her carefully he began to search through his book the size of a small lorry as if looking for something important. Videl couldn't help but feel a little intimidated. How she wished Gohan was here with her. But alas he wasn't anymore, it was just her. Alone in this strange place. She had to suck it up, and manage with her own courage and will strength.
"Videl Son." The bearded ogre finally spoke with a gruff yet surprisingly gentle voice. "Birth year, 756.
Father, Mr Hercule Satan,
Husband, Mr Son Gohan.
Mother of Son Pan.
Aunt of 1.
Grandmother of 2.
Date of Death, year 832,
Cause was due to old age, correct?" The ogre calmly as he read of the book. His eyes lay expectantly on Videl, waiting for a response. Videl stood there stunned, having trouble taking this sudden information all in.
"I-I'm dead?" She finally stuttered in disbelief.
"Well of course you are." King Yemma confirmed, "This is the spirit world, and I'm king Yemma, here to help pass you on to the afterlife." Yemma explained clearly, not the least bit surprised about Videl's confusion.
"But I don't remember dying..." Videl stated still a little confused.
"You peacefully died in your sleep." Yemma explained in a comforting tone. "Quite a few souls that die in their sleep don't remember that their dead until they arrive here." Yemma assured her, giving a soothing smile.
"You mean those cloudy people before me were souls?"
"That's right, depending on how good a soul has been in its life, determines how much it gets regenerated in the afterlife. Souls that were pretty bad, stay more cloudy than physical, and remain the relative same age as they were when they died, where as souls that did some good in their life have less of a cloudy appearance, and in reward have a younger spiritual body than that of their D.O.D, like you" Yemma explained in detail. "Looking at you, I'd say you've regenerated back to your twenties." Yemma nodded.
Videl took a moment to take it all in. She was dead, and in the spirit world, to be judged for the afterlife. She sadly thought of the ones she had left behind in her death, Pan, her grand-kids, little Chi-Chi & Gohan Jr, Goten, Bra and her young nephew Oxen.
She hoped for their sakes that they were managing fine without her.
"Are you alright Ms. Videl?" Yemma tentatively asked in a formal manner mindful of the mixture of emotions she would be likely feeling. "Would you like me to continue your judgement?"
"I'm alright... thankyou." Videl gave a shaky nod wiping a few regretful tears from her face. "Please continue." she said, apprehensively waited for whatever was to happen next.
"Alright." Yemma nodded. He ran his finger through the pages. "It says here in your life you achieved 4 of the heavenly virtues!" His face broke into a wide smile as he read from the page. "Love, Charity, Kindness and Diligence!  My, that is impressive!" Yemma awed. Eyeing Videl with admiration. "Most souls are lucky to get away with just one virtue! No wonder your soul regenerated itself to such a prime form" Yemma laughed.  Videl couldn't help but also smile back at receiving such praise.
"So what does this mean?" Videl asked curiously. "Do I get to 'go'?" Yemma chuckled.
"Why of course! This means, you get the prize!" Yemma joyously declared. "You get a one way trip to the virtuous haven lands! Or Heaven, as you mortals generally call it." He smiled.
With that he clicked his tree-sized fingers, the doors on Videl's right began to open.
"Oh and to get you there, a soul has offered to be your guide, through heaven." Yemma quickly added. "though I doubt youl object to his help..." He smirked as he watched the doors open to his left. Videl didn't have time to ask what he meant, as the doors fully opened, dousing the room with a bright golden light. Stepping through the light Videl could make out a tall figure walking through the light.
"Hello Videl." The figure spoke in a kind loving voice Videl instantly recognised.
"Gohan...?" Videl spoke, as though not believing her ears. The light began to dim, and Videl's vision of the person became clearer.
The light dimmed away completely the figure stepped forward and revealed itself to indeed be a young Son Gohan in his prime twenties, standing in the archway, grinning broadly at Videl his arms open wide at his sides.
"Did you miss me?" He smiled. But before he could receive an answer, Videl had instantly thrown herself at him, her arms wrapped around his waist hugging tightly, not daring to let go, for fear he might evaporate into dust should her grip slacken...
"I'll take that as a yes." Gohan laughed. As he moved his arms to hug her back.
"I've missed you, so much!" Videl sobbed into his chest, tears of happiness leaked down her face.
"Its alright now Videl, I've missed you too." Gohan soothed as he wiped the tears from her eyes. "I'm not going anywhere ever again. Like Yemma said, I'm gonna be your guide, in here." Videl smiled lovingly at the face of the man she had missed for so long.
He held out his hand for her to grab hold, Videl clasped it tightly without hesitation as he lead her through the doorway.
"Thankyou." Videl smiled to the red ogre who cheerfully waved back, as the golden doors closed behind them.
"So where do you wanna go first?" Gohan eagerly asked as the doors disappeared into clouds behind them.
"We can go to the singing hillsides, where the winds play the most amazing and beautiful music youv ever  heard, or there's the chocolate rivers? Rivers flowing with the tastiest chocolate with a new flavour everyday!" Gohan's mouth watered slightly. " Or we could go to golden sands beach! Where the sands are golden with a sapphire-blue sea-side. Just pick! Anywhere you want to go, its heaven!" Gohan grinned excitedly waiting for her response.
"I don't care." Videl smiled, she pulled his face in for a peck on the cheek. "I don't care where we go, just as long as its with you." She wrapped onto his arm. "You are my heaven Gohan." She sighed. "Always have been."
"And you are mine." Gohan contently smiled in response, lightly kissing Videl on the fore-head. The two continued to wander together aimlessly among the gold cloudy fields.
"So where would you like to go, Gohan?" Videl smiled as she rested her head on his arm while they walked.
"Well... I hear mattress field is a pretty fun place for couples..." Gohan grinned, Videl noticed his eyes trace her youthful figure.
"You perv!" Videl bonked him on the head, with a mad blush along her face. Clearly Gohan's wit hadn't left him, even in death. Videl inwardly smiled.
"Or we could go see Mum, Dad and the others?" Gohan hastily suggested, laughing as he nursed his sore head.
"Yes I think we should." Videl agreed, with a dignified smirk on her face as she let Gohan lead her. "Don't worry though, Gohan..." Videl smiled. While her eyes traced his muscle bound form "We can try mattress world another time, later." Videl whispered in his ear. Gohan's face instantly heated up in a strong blush.
"Shall we take the long way then?" He suggested as his face calmed down. "No need to hurry, we've only got an eternity, right?" Gohan laughed. Videl laughed too.
"I think the long way sounds perfect." Videl happily agreed.
Yes an eternity with Gohan, Videl wouldn't want it any other way.
